The Band:

Young the Giant have been active since 2004 after forming under the original name of The Jakes. After several band member shake ups, they have settled on the following current lineup:

  • Founding member-  Sameer Gadhia – owning on vocals, percussion, keyboards, and acoustic guitar
  • Founding member- Jacob Tilley – on guitar
  • Eric Cannata- joining the band in 2007, rocks out on guitar, adds a bit of the vocal line, and the occasional Keyboard.
  • Payam Dootzadeh- on bass guitar, as of 2008
  • François Comtois- keeping the beat on the drums, random percussion instruments, all while adding a bit of the vocals, as of 2007.

In 2010 after going on tour with Minus The Bear and Steel Train, the band finally digitally debuted their self titled album: Young the Giant to rave reviews, with Amazon.com naming it third on their list of best rock albums for the year. In January of 2011 the single “My Body” was released and quickly became a hit, even being featured on an episode of American Idol. From there things started to get real for them including hitting the late-night circuit with appearances on:

Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The Late Show with David Letterman

Conan

Before you know it they will land The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and SNL!

Their Live Show:

(fuzzy, but still them)

(fuzzy, but still them)

Last night I had the chance to see this fantastic group in concert, performing at the beautiful Fillmore Detroit, and it has to be said they put on one hell of show! The concert was part of their promotional tour for the newly released album Mind Over Matter. They played the best combination of new songs,  old songs, fast songs, and slow songs. They managed to sound better on some songs that night than they do on their album; they really created a fan out of me. I see big things to come from this young band. My only complaint for the night is that the set was too short, I would have loved to seem them play just a few more songs, I would imagine over time their concerts will be longer. The final song of the evening was “My Body” and it was just amazingly done. If they are ever in your town I totally recommend seeing them in concert, you will not be disappointed! Until then, purchase them on iTunes, and listen on Spotify.

Here for you is a sampling of tracks from this great band all of which are available on Spotify.

From their most recent album, Mind Over Matter, a mind-blowing sophomore album are Daydreamer and Anagram, two songs that when played live truly blow you way. To me is a sign of a fantastic band, one that can make a song sound better live than on a record.

Then from the début self titled album, Young The Giant, here for you is My Body and Cough Syrup. My Body was the closing song for the evening and they really just rocked it out, everyone up and jumping and dancing to this last tune.

Check them out!

Enjoy 😉
