With international pop and dance intruding the Australian music charts in 1994, it was the perfect time for some locally created dance beats to make their way out into the world – especially when rave / dance parties were on the increase.
Late July saw two musicians Paul Mac and Andy Rantzen come together as Itch-E & Scratch-E – incorporating the names of The Simpsons characters “Itchy & Scratchy” and the drug ecstacy, which was gaining popularity in the 90s.
While the duo formed in 1991, it wasn’t until 1994 when their track Sweetness and Light gave them some spotlight, entering the ARIA Charts at Number 74 in late July.
The track peaked at Number 65, and stayed in the charts for 11 weeks, dropping out in mid-October. It won the duo an ARIA for Best Dance Release in 1995.
