McLachlan ran with his Neighbours fame to score a Top 5 hit.
Booming star Craig McLachlan had a busy career in the late 80s playing Henry Ramsay on the soap Neighbours. When he left the series in 1989, he spent his time in the recording studio with his band Check 1-2 to churn out a pop-rock album, while at the same time, winning a Gold Logie award for Most Popular Personality.
After releasing the band’s first single Rock The Rock in 1989, it did not get much momentum, only just entering the ARIA charts at Number 36. After winning his Logie and his popularity soared, and in 1990, MacLachlan released Mona – a cover of the 1957 Bo Diddley classic. Almost instantly the track became a hit, peaking at Number 3 on the charts.
