Television production company Endemol Shine Australia (ESA) have been digging into their archives of their vast library of shows they have produced over the years, and have decided to give some that have been laying dormant – a new life – on YouTube.
At the time of this publication, ESA have dusted off the short-lived light entertainment comedy show from 2013 called SlideShow. Inspired by the French version from 2011, the local version was hosted by Grant Denyer, it involved various personalities to do an improv-guided routine (contradicting, right?) on a set that is tilted at a 22.5º angle. Other segments included spelling out words using body movements and shapes, performng silhouettes, and other parlour games that you’d perform drunk at a party.
Screened in 2013 on Channel 7, SlideShow lasted 13 episodes before it was not renewed. In a bizarre move, Actor Steve Carell tried to replicate the Australian version for the U.S. in 2014 called Riot! and hosted by Australian personality Rove McManus. Riot! also lasted 13 episodes and was not renewed.
But we’re not here to talk about Riot!, we’re here for SlideShow! (Not to be confused with ABC’s The Sideshow from 2007 – a late night variety series hosted by Paul McDermott).
