Trailer: The Pentaverate

Just when you thought The Love Guru star Mike Myers needs to come out with a fourth Austin Powers movie after his appearance in a GM Super Bowl commercial, he goes one better… kinda.

Streaming gods Netflix have released a teaser trailer which starts off semi-serious, until you realise it’s complete satire.

Welcome, to The Pentaverate!

What if a secret society of five men has been working to influence world events for the greater good since the Black Plague of 1347? As this new series begins, one unlikely Canadian journalist finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth and just possibly save the world himself. Remember, the Pentaverate must never be exposed!

It appears Myers is doing what he is best at – dressing up and playing multiple characters.

What makes this more interesting is that it feels like Myers has been “stew”ing on this Pentaverate thing for a while, because all we instantly thought of was this iconic moment from his 1993 romantic comedy So I Married An Axe Murderer, where conspiracy-nut Stuart McKenzie (Myers) goes on a rant – about ‘The Pentaverate”.

PS: Press pause on the Netflix trailer at 45s. We’ve done it for you.

The Pentaverate – the six part series arrives on Netflix May 5, 2022.
