A Resume that expands for decades, Gavin Wood is a man of many entertaining trades. Since the 1970s, he’s been in your eyes and ears either on the radio, television, or on the silver screen.
While beginning as a radio announcer, Wood became a national household name as the announcer for the ABC TV music show Countdown – broadcast from 1974 to 1987 and hosted by Ian “Molly” Meldrum. He has interviewed music talent of all shapes, styles and sizes – from Daryl Braithwaite to Katrina And The Waves.
When he’s not announcing, he’s appearing on other shows, such as Hey Hey It’s Saturday or polishing his acting chops in movies.
In the 1990s, Wood moved to Los Angeles to be in more-depth with producing TV shows and movies, and eventually returned to Australia a couple of years ago and recently – starting Gavin Wood’s Countdown Podcast – chatting with music artists (who he now calls close friends) and finding out more intimate stories.
We spoke to Wood to find out more about his rich history and what makes him tick.
