My Geek Culture visits the world famous Ripley’s ‘Believe It Or Not!’ museum, located in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast.
The museum itself is based on the “wild and bizarre” concept developed by American cartoonist Robert Ripley, who published images on sports oddities in 1919. As Ripley travelled around the world, the observation of oddities expanded in his books, as well as the public attention, with Believe It Or Not! turning into a radio serial.
The first museum of oddities opened in Chicago in 1933, which over the years turned into a multi-million dollar museum franchise, including more books and developments into a bunch of TV series.
While there are many Ripley museums around the world, we visited the Gold Coast location, checking out the oddities, interactive displays and games, and the fun that can be had for the whole family. There are other activities to do on site such as the 7D movie screening, but we explored the general admission + the laser game.
