Receiving guided tours of New York can be very restricted. They only show you what they want you to see. Not many people know that underneath the layers of New York, there’s a huge historical presence which most remain untouched, or are only a few steps away from the general public.
Cinematographer Andrew Wonder ups the anty a bit, by filming Urban explorer Steve Duncan making his way around the New York underworld, without the consent of the authorities. From hopping onto the running subway tracks, with trains roaring by, to checking out historical sewerage pipelines in the middle of housing areas, to climbing bridges without safety harnesses and being only metres away from the police, Wonder captures the beauty and serenity of New York – the stuff that you really don’t get to see in full view.
