Swearengen! Bullock! Garrett! Star! Utter! Jane! The rest!
Previously, on this site, we’ve mentioned we’re fans of the HBO period western drama Deadwood, which ran from 2004 to 2006 over three seasons. Starring Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, Kim Dickens and many others, the series rotated around the lives of patrons building the U.S. western town of Deadwood – struck by gold fever in the 1870s.

Loosely based on real-life personalities such as Sheriff Seth Bullock, bar owner Al Swearengen, Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and Wyatt Earp just to name a few, the series was shown on HBO and drew a major cult following due to its storytelling, raw and gritty actions, plus many curse words every few seconds. The show was left on a loose cliffhanger after 36 episodes after it was unsure of the future, and HBO pulled the plug – pissing off its viewership. Over the years, campaigns were made to bring the show back by either creating another season or make a movie. It was getting grim when the original set was dismantled and hope was lost.
Until now.
With most of the original cast back (some have unfortunately left this mortal coil), Deadwood – The Movie looks ultra-promising, with the teaser showing that Bullock and Swearengen have picked up where they have left off – but just with a few extra grey hairs.
Deadwood – The Movie screens on HBO May 31, 2019, but we will keep you posted on an Australian release… we’re guessing Foxtel.
