Remake MADNESS! The Naked Gun??

Naked-GunWhen will the madness end?? Seriously a remake of The Naked Gun starring Ed Helms, it’s like a nightmare!! Don’t get me wrong Ed Helms has had some decently funny movies, but he is funny in a very different not as funny way compared to Leslie Nielsen.

Leslie Nielsen is what makes The Naked Gun franchise what it is. The humor in Naked Gun cannot be remade; it happened organically and became a cult classic as a result. To me it’s like attempting to remake the freaking Mona Lisa, it just should not be done.  There are just some classics you leave alone and appreciate them just the way they are because they are best that way.  Now I imagine we will get an updated, not as good version of a fantastic movie (or franchise of movies) that our generation can claim as our very own because people are no longer able to generate new ideas.

The one-liners and comedy bits are unassumingly hilarious and filled with naughty and gross innuendos that at times are innocently created through a series of interactions. It’s like the part where Jane (Priscilla Presley) starts climbing a ladder, and you see Frank (Nielsen) look up and say “Nice Beaver.” At first you’re a little shocked by the statement and giggle a bit because wow, that’s dirty. Then  Jane produces a stuffed beaver, and says, “Thank you. I just had it stuffed.” real dry, like it was no big deal, at which point if you’re human you bust out laughing harder while feeling slightly perverted after your first assumption was wrong. These movies constantly remind you how often your mind is in the gutter. I do not see them being able to pull off this type of humor, times have changed too much. Not that we are not dirty minded, it’s just we are more vocal about it.

I cannot remember which comedy movie “behind the scenes” it was and I will refer to it when I remember…sorry… but I recall the lead actor saying that making the first movie was by far the easiest because it was fresh and things started happening through developing chemistry, and improv, and that it was the layering of organic humor that made the first movie so funny. But when they got to the second movie in the franchise it was much more difficult, mainly because they were not only trying to create a second movie, but they had to recreate the essence of the first, which had happened almost naturally.

So, I guess do not see Ed Helms being able to channel the charm Nielsen brought to Frank or the essence the original had…. and think the only good thing that will come of this remake is that they will probably show all three Naked Gun’s again in the Theater in back-to-back screenings which will be fantastic!

I hate to do this but just for a reminder here are some of the funniest moments from the three movies, sorry for the quality of  this find, and I beg you do not watch it if you have not seen all three movies! This video is all *SPOILERS* lol. Hilarious *SPOILERS*

Enjoy 😉
