Patrick Renna’s ‘killing’ your Sandlot childhood

If there’s ever a great time to relive your childhood while in a pandemic, it’s been the last few months while stuck at home.

That’s what Actor Patrick Renna has been doing. You may know him from movies such as Son In Law, The X-Files, and random appearances in E.R. and GLOW.

But you’ll definitely know him from the 1993 film The Sandlot (or The Sandlot Kids as titled in Australia). If you can’t remember, take time to watch the trailer to jog your memory.

In the film, Renna plays Hamilton “Ham” Porter – the high energy, super-positive, super-competitive kid who loves playing baseball with the neighbourhood kids and teaching new-kid-on-the-block Scott Smalls (Tom Guiry) how to make the perfect S’more, coining the catchphrase “You’re killing me, Smalls!” when he’s completely unaware of the tradition.

As part of the downtime a lot of performing arts people have, some have turned to podcasting and re-connect with former work colleagues for conversations with their working past, or YouTube to have mad chats about movies / TV, detailed Q & As, and virtual table reads to raise money for charity.

In Renna’s case, he’s created You’re Killing Me with Patrick Renna, where he reminisces over the Sandlot movie that plays a close part to many Gen-Xers and Gen-Yers, with re-connecting with former cast members to talk about their experiences.

Other than sharing some of his personal life, recently there was a Sandlot cast reunion, featuring most of the cast.

So get your chewing tabacco and climb into the treehouse to lose yourself in the hours of content of You’re Killing Me with Patrick Renna.
