On October 24, 2024, my friend Kris and I set off from Australia to the U.S., embracing our 40+ year-old selves for another unforgettable adventure in Las Vegas. Our main mission? To watch the iconic Blue Man Group perform once again (we’ve lost track of how many times we’ve seen them!), and to visit the legendary candy and cocktail bar, I ❤️ SUGAR.
Blue Man Group was held at The Luxor Hotel, and true to form, it didn’t disappoint. It was the same electric mix of colour, sound, and rhythm that we’ve come to know and love—though unfortunately, they don’t allow filming, so we had to store the memories in our minds instead. With their quirky humour, energetic drumming, and that mesmerising interplay of lights and colours, the performance left us buzzing. Even though it was “for the umpteenth time,” the show was as fresh and entertaining as ever. It’s incredible how they manage to make each experience feel unique and unforgettable. After the show, we felt a bit like celebrities ourselves, bouncing along the Vegas Strip, soaking in the energy of the city that never sleeps.
As we made our way to I ❤️ SUGAR, we had one of those “small world” moments. Another Aussie crossed our path and complimented my shirt, sparking a quick exchange of laughs and hellos. There’s something special about bumping into a fellow Australian halfway across the world—instant connection and mutual appreciation. But we didn’t linger long, because we had candy dreams to chase.
Finally, we arrived at I ❤️ SUGAR, and it was everything we’d imagined and more. This place was hands down the biggest candy store we’ve ever seen, bursting with colour, sugar, and an incredible selection of sweets from wall to wall. Every candy lover’s dream was here, displayed in the most dazzling, over-the-top way possible. The store was an experience on its own, with every detail designed to dazzle and excite, from massive candy sculptures to shelves stacked with sweets from around the globe.
Feeling thirsty from all the excitement, we headed upstairs to the cocktail bar. This wasn’t just any cocktail bar; it was like stepping into a neon-fueled candy paradise for grown-ups. The drinks were as vibrant as the candy downstairs, each cocktail a deliciously sweet concoction that tasted even better than it looked. We had a few rounds, sampling drinks that were basically dessert in a glass—colourful, creative, and exactly what you’d expect from a place like I ❤️ SUGAR. The cocktails had us bouncing off the walls (maybe the sugar rush was to blame!), and we left feeling giddy and ready to take on the rest of Vegas.
All in all, it was a night full of nostalgia, fun, and more sugar than we probably should have had, but hey, that’s Vegas for you. Blue Man Group never disappoints, and neither does the experience of being a kid in a candy store—especially when that candy store serves cocktails on the side.
