A Quick Chat With: Big Brother’s Trevor Butler

With the inevitable return (for the third time) of the reality TV show Big Brother to Australian televisions screens, the voyeur show where housemates bond together in a house full of cameras and vote each other out for the world to see has made household names out of a few contestants.

Originally screened on Channel 10 from 2001 to 2008 (let’s not forget the Celebrity edition), then to Channel 9 between 2012 to 2014, the controversial series laid dormant for a few years until Channel 7 threw some money at the broadcast rights and is bring it back for 2020. Some interest of the show surfaced when the house was ‘urban explored‘ at the Dreamworld theme park location in 2019, which burned down by vandals weeks later. The fans were calling out to bring it back. So Channel 7 did – and they built a new house new Manly in Sydney, and will start screening on TV later in the year.

To piggy-back off the chatter, we caught up with 2004 winner Trevor “Big Trev” Butler, who has been the only contestant to win a full $1 million dollars. Here’s a recap.

But “Big Trev” hasn’t really changed him. He married his true love, had two kids, lives on the Gold Coast, works a 9 to 5 job, invested his money wisely, all that jazz… So instead of asking him the same cliche questions, we gave him some random pop culture questions to see how he ticks.

Big Brother returns to Channel 7 in 2020.
