The Australian criminal who does bad to do good, without a care in the world.Try and think of a well known criminal from Australia’s history and most people would turn to ye olde outlaw Ned Kelly. If you ask the people of Victoria, you will get Mark “Chopper” Read.
The self-confessed rough-houser of the 1970s to the 1990s and known for chopping his ears off to ‘get out of the system’ ended up being portrayed by comedian Eric Bana, in the 2000 film Chopper.
Directed by Andrew Dominik, this raw storytelling of a vigilante who looked out for himself while battling his own demons is in a league of its own, catapulting Bana to Hollywood stardom.
A highly entertaining behind-the-scenes moment is when Chopper himself was being interviewed a few years before the 2000 release, leaving him flabbergasted in the year it’ll be released.
