Hoges and Strop reunite in Brew New Ad

by Matt Fulton February 1, 2020
written by Matt Fulton February 1, 2020

It’s been many a decade since Australia’s favourite export Paul Hogan graced our TV screens to do some sketch comedy.

From The Paul Hogan Show in the 1970s to shrimps on barbies and the silver screen with Crocodile Dundee in the 1980s, a few odd films through the 1990s, and the occasional pop-up for falsely accused tax evasion and viral marketing campaigns in the 2000s and 2010s, Hoges never truly rests.

With Australia plagued with bushfires of biblical proportions, Hogan, alongside with ol’ mate John ‘Strop’ Cornell and Delvene Delaney have dusted off their Paul Hogan Show costumes and brought back their iconic characters from the Channel 9 TV series to promote a new beer. All for charity.

The commercial is based on two characters of the show – ‘Hoges and Strop’, two housemates who get up to regular schenanigans. An iconic sketch is the one with Strop creating a hangover cure after a night on the turps – a disturbing yet iconic concoction, which has been written into Australian comedy folklore.

Fast forward to the year 2020, and Hoges and Strop are at the Hotel Brunswick, catching up over a beer (that’s served by Delaney), as Hoges remininsce over the good ol’ days. Hotel Brunswick has a big connection with the trio – Cornell and Delaney have had their foot in the door since 1981.

Profits from the Classic Brew go towards the RFS, Wires, and other volunteers involved. Currently, the beer is only available at Hotel Brunswick located in Northern NSW, so you better hightail your arse there and get one into ya!
