Get ready to leap into a world of weirdness, wonder and “what the hells” … as you enter the deep, dark and erotic world of mystical vampires, murder, drugs, crime gangs, and just bizarre wackiness that is the early 90’s TV soap Chances with Collection Two on DVD.
126 episodes were screened, and only a small “best of” DVDs with selected episodes were released which are now long out-of-print. Thanks to Via Vision Entertainment, Chances – Collection Two now completes the entire series release, which will sit nicely next to Collection One.
This boxset contains the remaining 66 episodes of the series, with most of these episodes being released for the first time since original broadcast. This 17 DVD box set contains 3 DVD cases, with Episodes 60 to 83 in case one, Episodes 84 to 107 in case two, and Episodes 108 to 127 in case three. However, in Case One, you’ll notice that Episode 78 does not exist. According to Beyond Entertainment and Via Vision, this may have been a production labelling error at the time of the show being produced – that meaning there is no such episode existing, while Episodes 79 to 127 are included, treat them as Episodes 78 to 126.
- 66 episodes – average 45 minutes
- 3 Cases
- Case One – Part 1 – 6 Discs
- Episodes 60 to 83 (Episode 78 does not exist due to labelling error)
- Case Two – Part 2 – 6 Discs
- Episodes 84 to 107
- Case Three – Part 3 – 5 Discs
- Episodes 108 to 127
The quality is what you would expect – direct from the masters – which have held up extremely well. Don’t expect anything fancy or glorious like High definition restoration, commentary, behind the scenes or bloopers. This release appears to just get these episodes on DVD so we can consume them, and be preserved at the most economical cost.
The DVD menus are basic and suit the style and layout that Via Vision have been presenting in other Australian classic DVD releases, so don’t expect anything flash. Just dive straight into the show.
Presented in its original 4:3 aspect ratio, the sound is presented in 2.0 stereo english, but unfortunately lacks subtitles or other audio language. It is in Region 4 format, but will play on any region-free players if you have one.
This Collection Two concludes and finalises the Chances series, so it will satisfy the Australian Television physical media collector and viewer. At a runtime of 50 hours and 16 minutes, it’s time you take that chance. If you don’t – some win.. Some lose!
Available now through ViaVision and good DVD retailers.
