If you digest your true crime podcasts like it’s no tomorrow, you’d be aware of the 1999 disappearance of Baltimore school student Hae Min Lee, and her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed was convicted of her murder.
What made this case unique was that U.S. public broadcaster NPR brought this case to the spotlight in their podcast series Serial, which went gangbusters upon its official release in 2014. Hosted by Sarah Koenig, the audience was driven deep into the case, exposing holes in the story, and how the system was handled, raising questions on the possibility that Syed may be innocent.
Now, HBO – known for high quality documentaries (other than Game Of Thrones) has raised their hand to say they’re on the bandwagon too, by releasing a new teaser trailer.
Directed by Academy Award nominee Amy Berg, The Case Against Adnan Syed will explore the 1999 disappearance and murder of 18-year-old Baltimore County high school student Hae Min Lee, and the subsequent conviction of her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, a case brought to global attention by the hugely popular Serial podcast.
The Case Against Adnan Syed – coming in Spring (U.S.) on HBO.
No word on an Australian release, but we’ll let you know. UPDATE March 25, 2019: SBS will be screening the special 8:30pm Sunday April 7, 2019.
