They’re coming in thick and fast. The trailers, that is… not the football players.
Even if you don’t follow the NFL, the most entertaining part of the U.S. football game are the commercials. In a time-honour tradition, the grand final puts bums on seats across the United States and around the world with a huge audience. With that, comes big ratings. Big ratings = top dollar commercials. Alongside these commercials, movie studios usually squeeze in the trailers for high-budget blockbusters that are soon to be screened.
The following are a combination of teasers and trailers for the latest silver screen sizzle.
Solo: A Star Wars Story
The second spin-off of the Star Wars universe shows the origin story of the galaxy’s favourite renegade Han Solo, played by Alden Ehrenreich, with Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian, as well as Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson. This is actually a 45 second teaser for the trailer that will be launched tomorrow.
IN CINEMAS: May 24, 2018.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
The second trailer for the 5th movie in the Jurassic Park franchise. We now see a little more action from Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and some more dinosaurs. Plus lava. More lava.
IN CINEMAS: June 2018.
Mission Impossible: Fallout
There’s no stopping one of the best spies in the world. Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and what’s remaining of his living team (Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Michelle Monaghan) are battling it out in the sixth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise. Shooting through Berlin, Paris, and around Europe with what appears to be the antagonist August Walker (the heavily moustached Henry Cavill). Once again, Cruise is doing all his stunts and kicking butt.
IN CINEMAS: 26th July 2018.
The Cloverfield Paradox
In 2008, J.J. Abrams brought us a huge scary monster to New York City, trashing everything in sight – and we all saw it through the P.O.V. handheld camera of Hud (T.J. Miller) filming his mates. In 2016, we were introduced to 10 Cloverfield Lane, where we saw an alien invasion through the common third-person narrative, with farmer Howard Stambler (John Goodman) rescuing car crash victim Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), but holding her in a doomsday bunker.
Now, with the anticipation of the third film secretly coming together with little sizzle, BAM! The Cloverfield Paradox trailer hits us – set in a space station, with astronauts trying to solve a massive energy crisis back on Earth, only to discover things aren’t all they seem… and it’s hitting Netflix tonight – right after the Superbowl.
CINEMAS: On Netflix probably right now.
Dundee: The Son Of A Legend Returns Home
Finally – the sizzle for the best fake movie is now out.
…. and it was one impressive ad for Tourism Australia.
With teasers and a trailer with an impressive Australian cast announced in January, the line was drawn down the middle whether a fourth film of the Crocodile Dundee series was needed. But as suspicions arose – it’s been revealed as simply a commercial for Tourism Australia – even the admittance of it being an ad in the actual ad itself, and a cameo by Paul Hogan himself.
When you visit DundeeMovie.com, it now diverts to Australia.com. Check out the site for more videos.
CINEMAS: It was a tourism commercial.
Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War
With a list of stars too many too mention, we were all expecting a brand-spanking new trailer with lots more action and tid-bits.
But all we got was some tiny bit more action, some bonding, and a silent Thanos.
All in 30 seconds.
IN CINEMAS: 25th April 2018.
A 30 second trailer starring Jennifer Lawrence as a Russian spy who falls for a CIA Officer (Joel Edgerton), which makes her think about being a double agent. Kinda echoes the Black Widow character from the Marvel Universe…
IN CINEMAS: 1st March 2018.
We’re in for a big treat!
