TV star heartthrob attempts transition to music, with questionable results.

Everyone loves a good novelty song. Everyone loves belting out a karaoke track in the privacy of your own home. But in this case, when you’re known as a TV heartthrob and not a vocalist, it’s best to stick to your guns.

Dominating the household TV with his gig playing Sergeant Steve “Mickey” McClintock on ABC TV’s Police Rescue – and the highly publicised telemovie about to be broadcast, Gary Sweet recorded a cover of the 1972 rock classic Most People I know (Think That I’m Crazy) for the soundtrack.

Originally a Top 5 chart topping hit for Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs, Crazy entered the ARIA Charts at Number 79 in early March 1994, reaching as far as Number 52 – staying in the charts for 7 weeks.

Sweet is still soldiering on to this day, now a highly respected veteran on Australian TV and film – and still tickling the golden tonsils, somewhere…
